Making sense of SART statistics:

SART Statistic Explanation:
Each year the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technologies publishes a report that provides statistics on fertility center success rates throughout the nation. Year after year RAD has consistently scored among the top fertility centers in the nation, well above the national average. However when trying to decipher the meaning of the statistics, patients can become overwhelmed by the wealth of data, and find it hard to determine which particular metrics are important to look at. This guide will give you a better understanding of how to make informed decisions about Fertility centers based on their SART statistics and why our statistics set us apart as state of the art fertility center.

Commitment to eSET:
% of cycles resulting in eSET (Elective Single Embryo Transfer)
eSET-Elective Single Embryo Transfer is a commitment to transferring only 1 embryo during an IVF cycle. As clinical providers, we highly recommend the most conservative route of fertility treatment to lower the risk of complications and ensure a successful pregnancy. Often times clinics will transfer multiple embryos during an IVF cycle to increase the chances for pregnancy, however this poses a variety of risks. The higher the number of embryos transferred, the greater the risk of multiples. Multiple infant pregnancy risks can affect both the mother and the infants, and can result in problems such as a high rate of cesarean section, prematurity, low birth weight, and infant disability or death. At RAD we are committed to single embryo transfer, to provide the safest and most effective pregnancy outcomes for our patients.

Implantation Rate:
The implantation rate can be considered to be most accurate measure of a clinic’s “efficiency rate” for an IVF cycle. The implantation rate is the percentage of embryos transferred in the uterus that resulted in implantation. If a center has a high implantation rate, it indicates that for each cycle the chances of the embryo selected implanting is very high. This shows that the proper embryos are being chosen. An indicator of a very “efficient” practice is when the implantation rate and the pregnancy rate are equal. This means that each time the embryo was implanted a pregnancy was achieved.

Average number of embryo’s transferred and % of live birth with twins, triplets or greater multiples:
Because of our commitment to eSET, our mean number of embryos transferred is much lower than the national average. The smaller the number of embryos transferred per IVF cycle, the lower the risk for both the mother and baby. By transferring only 1 embryo per cycle this also decreases the risk for twins, triplets or greater multiples as well.

[1] Note: A comparison of clinic success rates may not be meaningful because patient medical characteristics, treatment approaches and entrance criteria for ART may vary from clinic to clinic.
