About
OUR LABORATORY

RAD’s laboratory team is the backbone of our center. They lead the way through research and innovation contributing to nationally recognized success rates.

About Our Laboratory

At Reproductive Associates of Delaware we recognize that a primary obstacle to pursuing fertility treatment is affording care. As part of your comprehensive treatment we have a financial team who can help you through this process and offer a variety of financial options.

IVF success at Reproductive Associates of Delaware wouldn’t be possible without the expert embryologists, andrologists and technicians in our laboratory. Our lab adheres to the highest standards and is well above regulatory compliance levels set by state and federal government. RAD’s laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists’ Laboratory Accreditation Program and has Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA) certification. Here are just some of the advanced techniques performed by the laboratory at RAD during a typical IVF cycle:

Semen Analysis

As part of RAD’s initial fertility investigation, we examine the viability of a male partner’s sperm in addition to testing a female partner’s potential fertility. Male partners provide a semen sample, which andrologists analyze to determine the sperm count, morphology, and motility.

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection is a technique in which a single sperm is injected into an egg in order to achieve fertilization. Embryologists use a glass tube called a pipette to inject the sperm directly into the cytoplasm of the egg. After fertilization occurs, the embryo is cultured in a laboratory incubator and then ultimately transferred during a fresh or frozen IVF cycle.

Pre-Implantation Genetic Screening (PGS)

An embryo that appears healthy can contain chromosomal abnormalities. Pre-Implantation Genetic Screening provides information regarding the chromosomal health of the embryo. PGS can greatly enhance the chance of selecting the healthiest embryo, increasing the likelihood of a healthy pregnancy.

Patient benefits of PGS include:

  • High implantation and pregnancy rates (about 60%) and extremely low miscarriage rates (>10%)
  • Enhanced confidence in single embryo transfer stemming from embryologist identifying chromosomally normal embryos that have the highest chance of implantation
  • Safer IVF stimulation cycles that avoid hyper stimulation syndrome almost 100% of the time
  • Enhanced fetal growth and pregnancy outcome with frozen embryo transfer
  • The ability to identify and freeze healthy embryos for fertility preservation for future pregnancy wishes
  • Provides credible information for patients considering donor egg or embryo adoption in situations where no embryos are chromosomally normal (typical in older patients)
